PEGI (Pan European Games Information) is a European system for rating games
with the purpose of protecting children and youngsters against inappropiate
material. The system is created by ISFE (Interactive Software Federation of Europe)
and is supported by the European Commission.
The PEGI system consists of two element. The first is the age rating, which
explains which ages the material is suited for. This is not about difficulty
or target group, but solely the degree of inappropiate material. The age
rarings are as follows:
3+ years
7+ years
12+ years
16+ years
18+ years
Furthermore the PEGI system includes a number of content icons. These indicate
which types of inappropiate material each games have. The symbols are as follows:
Violence The game contains depictions of violence.
Sex The game depicts nudity and/or sexual behaviour or sexual references.
Drugs The game refers to or depicts the use of drugs.
Fear The game may be frightening or scary for young children.
Gambling The game encourages or teaches gambling.
Discrimination The game contains depictions of, or material which may encourage, discrimination.
Bad Language The game contains bad language.
